There are 60 miles of town roads that the Highway Department provides services and maintains. In the winter the Highway Department plows and salts all the town roads and approximately 70 miles of Erie County roads per contract with the county.
In the spring and summer, the Highway Department crews are out mowing the roadsides, trimming or cutting down dead trees, cleaning out the ditches, installing new culvert pipe when needed, chipping branches and picking up chunk wood around town. Four times per year we pick up junk tires and car batteries. For more information on garbage and recycling see below.
The Highway Department has developed a three-year maintenance plan for the upkeep of all town roads. The department assesses the condition of our roads and determine a priority repair / maintenance list. The department also has a five-year road reconstruction plan in place, in which the department assesses the roads for more severe problems and schedule repaving.
In the fall the department makes mulch, which becomes available in the spring to all Town of Aurora and Village of East Aurora residents.
There are many water districts and sewer districts throughout the town. Sewer districts are now handled by the Erie County Sewer Authority. Many water districts are managed through an agreement with the county. Any questions regarding problems or installation should be directed to the Highway Department.
