HELP KEEP OUR TOWN CLEAN Regular garbage collection and recycling with Allied Waste (formerly BFI) is as follows:
- ALL ITEMS – GARBAGE, RUBBISH or RECYCLING: May be put out no earlier than one day prior to pick-up and no later than 7 a.m. on your scheduled day.
- TRASH THAT CAN BE PICKED UP: furniture, appliances, bundled and tied brush and wood (4 foot lengths), boxed “do it yourself” building materials, etc Note: appliances containing CFC's (refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, humidifiers) will be picked up separately and should be placed at the curb during the first week of the month.
- YARD WASTE: (ie. grass clippings and twigs) should be in containers.
The Highway Department will pick up the following items. Please be prepared, there will be no call backs. If you have any questions please call 652-4050.
- TIRES AND CAR BATTERIES: 2008 schedule:
March 24, May 27, September 22, November 24. - LEAVES (FALL ONLY): rake leaves to roadside for leaf-vac pick-up (do not obstruct ditches) starting after Labor Day.
- CHUNK WOOD AND TREE LIMBS: All limbs must be stacked neatly, butt end facing the road and at least 4 feet long. NO VINES or LAND CLEARING. Be prepared the April 7, May 5, June 2, Sept. 2, Oct. 6. No pickup in January, February, March, July, August, November and December.
Homeowners' Responsibility:
- HAZARDOUS MATERIALS: please call the Erie County hazardous materials hotline at 858-6800 for dates and places where materials can be taken.
- USED MOTOR OIL: Call your local service station.
- CONTRACTORS' BUILDING MATERIALS REFUSE: must be taken care of by the contractor or property owner. Must hire a private Dumpster.
- RAILROAD TIES, BRICK CHUNK CEMENT, LANDSCAPE TIMBERS.
RECYCLING BIN POLICY:
Adopted by the Town of Aurora July 9, 2001
- Homeowners of new-built single family residence are entitled to one recycling bin supplied by the town.
- Owners of a multiple family residence are entitled to one bin per housing unit with a maximum of four (4) units.
- Additional bins may be purchased at the Town Hall only during normal business hours, (8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.), either in the Tax Receiver’s Office or Town Clerk’s Office.
- Bins that have been damaged will be replaced without a fee when the homeowner returns the damaged bin to the Town Hall or Highway Garage.
- In the event a bin is lost or stolen, the homeowner may purchase a replacement bin for a fee of $7.00.

For Town of Aurora Garbage & Recycling Collection
GARBAGE
The equivalent of 8 bags or cans of normal municipal solid waste including yard waste, ashes (cold ashes only), plaster, stone, brick & building materials. Place material in watertight cans w/covers and handle (3 mil minimum) and/or plastic bags. Limit of 80 lbs. per container. Securely tie bundles of brush & building materials in lengths no longer than 4 feet in length and 80 lbs. in weight.
DO NOT INCLUDE tires, pesticides, oil, solvents, flammable liquids, explosives, animal carcasses, fecal matter, industrial waste, other guided hazardous waste or building materials left by a contractor.
RECYCLING
Place all recyclable materials inside the blue recycling bin provide by the town. In the above section you will find your expanded recycling guide. PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE ARE NEW recyclable materials and that you no longer need to follow a recycling schedule. All recyclables can be placed out weekly inside the recycling bin on the same day as garbage pick up.
FOR COLLECTION
Place garbage and recyclables at the roadside, within 5 feet of the road, before 7:00 a.m. on your pick-up day. If you have a ditch in front of your property, place garbage and recyclables between the road and the ditch.
- Garbage and recyclables will be collected on the same day in separate trucks, at different times during the day.
- Large items too large for contained handling may be placed in a neat & orderly fashion in such condition that one (1) man may readily handle w/out falling apart.
SPECIAL COLLECTION
While all white goods are accepted every week, we ask that units containing CFC’s (Refrigerators, Freezers, Air Cond. or Dehumidifier Units etc.) be placed at curbside on your collection day, the 1st week of every month.
HOLIDAY SCHEDULE
NEW YEAR’S DAY, MEMORIAL DAY, INDEPENDENCE DAY, LABOR DAY, THANKSGIVING and CHRISTMAS. If your collection day is on or follows any of these holidays during the week, then your collection will be one day later. Note, this does not include holidays that fall on a Sunday but celebrated on a Monday.
